RENEWABLE ENERGY: RTR BUYS THE MONTEBOLI 24 MWp PLANT FROM TOTO
  • FURTHER RESOURCES FOR RENEXIA INVESTMENTS (TOTO GROUP)
  • RTR REINFORCES ITS LEADING POSITION IN ITALY

(Rome, 9 July 2012) Renexia, a Toto Group company in the renewable energy sector has signed a purchase agreement with the RTR Group, a leading Italian company in the production of solar-powered electric energy, owned 100% by the private equity firm Terra Firma. This contract will allow RTR to buy a 100% interest in the share capital of the 'Monteboli' company, owner of the photovoltaic plant in the Municipality of Salerno, in Monte di Eboli, built by Toto and commissioned in May 2011, with an overall installed power of approximately 24 MWp.

The plant was constructed on a plot of land of 42 hectares near Monte Eboli, and produces 33,000 MW h of clean energy annually, which can meet the consumption of over 12,000 families. It is the largest PPP (Public-Private Partnership) project in the photovoltaic sector in Europe. This acquisition will increase the installed power of RTR by 24 MWp, bringing it to a total of 265 MWp. The transaction, worth approximately 90 million Euros, will be completed by the end of July and will be financed by a fund generated by RTR and partly by project financing.

Valentina Toto, President of Toto Holding, stated that "sale of the plant confirms Toto Group's strategy in the renewable energy sector. The resources generated by this sale will be reinvested in Renexia for new investment in wind (On Shore and Off Shore), solar and hydroelectric power, as well as in the geothermal and solar thermodynamic sectors. In the future, while maintaining a steady presence in Italy, Renexia will also decisively aim at foreign markets, especially north Europe, north Africa and the United States."

Paolo Lugiato, Managing Director of the RTR Group declared, "We are continuing to develop our platform through new acquisitions and we are already assessing new investment possibilities. We will swiftly integrate the Monte di Eboli plant into our new portfolio, on the basis of our Asset Management philosophy, which is based on an innovative monitoring system, efficient Operation & Maintenance processes and the use of avant-garde technology to increase plant performance. I am proud to emphasise that this is the second acquisition RTR has made with its own funds."
