Work continues on the A20 Palermo-Messina Motorway, which will improve the lives of many motorists in the coming months, making traffic flow easier in a particularly delicate section of the Messina road network. Toto Costruzioni’s work focuses on the section between Tremestieri and Villafranca, the real backbone of urban traffic. Here is the Ritiro Viaduct, which connects the motorway to the districts of Giostra and Annunziata and at the same time brings the car traffic to the port area. Thanks to the static adjustment and seismic improvement of the viaduct, it will be possible to upgrade the road section, which until now has been limited to only one lane per direction of travel, due to the deterioration of the structure.
The current viaduct will be reinforced by replacing the pre-compressed reinforced concrete components with corten steel components, while a mixed steel-concrete material will be used for the new decks.
The demolition and launching of the new decks, which are up to 60 metres high, will be carried out with minimum interference on the city traffic, guaranteeing at least one double carriageway road for the entire duration of the work.
