This assignment brings to three the number of lots entrusted to Toto by the Extraordinary Commissioner, for a total of 13 viaducts and more than 400 million in amount, out of a portfolio worth 950 million euros.
Chieti, Feb. 3, 2025-Toto Costruzioni Generali announces that it has been awarded the contract for the design and execution of safety and seismic retrofitting of three additional dual-carriageway viaducts between the Bussi/Popoli and Pratola Peligna/Sulmona exits on the A25 highway.
This contract, worth about 150 million euros, represents the eighth segment of work entrusted by the Extraordinary Commissioner for the seismic safety of the A24 and A25 highways.
The Aterno, Corfinio and Sorgenti viaducts will have to be completely demolished and rebuilt to be brought up to the latest earthquake-resistant standards, for more than three kilometers of new decks.
Particular attention will be paid to the choice of lighter and more elastic materials and the installation of the latest generation of seismic dissipators.
With this award, the sections entrusted to Toto on the A25 highway rise to three, with a total value of more than 400 million euros out of about 950 million in the portfolio, and involve the demolition and reconstruction of 13 viaducts in total.
These works are among those provided for in Law 228 of 2012, which sanctioned the urgency of securing the entire A24 and A25 highway network after the L’Aquila earthquake.
The work will be carried out on a section of highway in operation, so it will have to follow a strict timetable to reduce interference with the road system, ensuring the continuity of construction sites on one carriageway at a time and concentrating the most impactful operations during night hours.
Meanwhile, these days, the safety of the first section of highway between Lazio and Abruzzo, which Toto is carrying out on the A24 between Tornimparte and L’Aquila, is nearing completion.
Recently, the eight viaducts closest to Abruzzo’s capital city have been reopened to traffic, while work on the last four viaducts toward Tornimparte is in full swing.
These interventions confirm Toto’s experience in high-tech construction, through the application of innovative solutions such as mixed corten steel and concrete structures to improve weather resistance and elasticity, or controlled blasting with explosive microcharges, used in less populated areas to speed up demolition and reconstruction times.
