HADATH-SYRIAN BORDER HIGHWAY

The project involves the building of a lot of the highway linking Lebanon to Syria, in the section between the towns of Saoufar and Mdeirej. The project’s characteristic features are the two viaducts built with a reinforced concrete framework and prestressed reinforced concrete girders precast on site. The Mdeirej viaduct comprises 11 spans, each measuring 40 m, and a maximum pier height of 70 m. The second viaduct, known as the Grand Hotel viaduct, comprises 8 spans, each measuring 40 m, and a maximum pier height of 25 m. Another characteristic project feature is the digging of a large stretch of cutting for the motorway to run through entailing the excavation of 1,800,000 m3 of rock with the help of mechanical tools and explosives.
